Postage stamps carry the soul of the country and preserve India’s cultural legacy for generations: Union Minister of Communications l Jyotiraditya M. Scindia
The Department of Posts today released a Commemorative Postage Stamp on the Centenary of renowned artist, architect, sculptor, muralist and writer late Satish Gujral at a special ceremony held at Bikaner House, New Delhi. The stamp was released by the Union Minister of Communications and Development of North Eastern Region, Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, in the presence of Director General Postal Services, Jitendra Gupta, Chief Postmaster General Delhi Circle Col. Akhilesh Kumar Pandey, famous Indian painter, sculptor, and muralist Padma Bhushan recipient Shri Jatin Das, former Director General of the National Gallery of Modern Art Dr. Rajeev Lochan, Ms. Raseel Gujral Ansal, members of the Gujral family and other distinguished guests.
Addressing the gathering, Jyotiraditya M. Scindia described late Shri Satish Gujral as a creative genius whose life reflected resilience, innovation and excellence. He highlighted Gujral’s extraordinary contributions as a painter, sculptor, architect, muralist and writer, noting that his works continue to inspire generations in India and across the world.
Recalling late Satish Gujral’s long and cherished association with the Department of Posts, the Union Minister noted that the celebrated artist not only created works of art but also transformed ideas into powerful visual narratives through his stamp designs. Referring to the commemorative stamp issued on the 125th anniversary of VSNL, he observed that Gujral had translated the idea of communication into striking visual metaphors. Likewise, in the Financial Inclusion stamp, he brought together the themes of progress, empowerment and national development through evocative symbolism rather than literal imagery.
Emphasizing the enduring significance of postage stamps, the Union Minister said, “Postage stamps are very small in size, but they carry the soul of our country. They carry the passion of 140 crore people, travelling from city to city, village to village, taluk to taluk, carrying India’s history, culture and collective memories across generations.” He expressed confidence that the commemorative stamp would preserve Satish Gujral’s legacy and inspire future generations.
